Yes; they are somewhat like a lenco shifter. There's a video on youtube that teaches you how to use these things. Oldsmobile called them lightning rods.

There are a surprising amount of those at the GM nationals. It makes me sad knowing someone had to drive it there :(

They aren't that bad. You can drop an Olds 403 or 350 small-block which are identical externally to the emissions-strangled 260 and use the same motor mounts. This is one of the last fastbacks to be produced by GM before the ultra-formal notchbacks of the 80's. Wasn't until fairly recently they started making fastback-styled cars again.
